"Blog" is an abbreviated version of "weblog," which is a term used to describe websites that maintain an ongoing chronicle of paragraphs of information, opinion or diary entries in a journal style. Generally the blogs allow visitors to add comments to the entries and there is the main difference between blogs and websites.
A website has static content, there is no interactivity and there is only one-way communication. In a blog, content is regularly updated and allows interactivity and communication between bloggers and readers.
Nowadays there is also Vlogs. Vlogging involves the same process of sharing information, experiences and giving advice, but it is done in a video format as opposed to a written one. It is very easy to set up a youtube account where you can record, edit and publish video content. I think it is a perfect resource to improve oral skills.
There are three types of blog implementation in classrooms: The Tutor Blog, the Class Blog and the Learner Blog.
The Tutor Blog is a blog in which only the teacher writes and hang informations, syllabus and homework. The Class Blog is a shared blog between the teacher and the students. In this type of blog students are able to write, read other partners entries and comment it. The learner blog consists on giving each student a blog.
In my opinion, I prefer the Class Blog because it implicates more communication between teacher and students and build together their knowledge.
In regard to the blog policy, the blog should be a virtual extension of our classroom, and therefore it should have the same policies and rules.
