Physics and Chemistry Padlet: Building our knowledge atom-by-atom

In the link below you can access to a Padlet that I have created. In this Padlet you will find some mobile and tablet apps very useful to science teachers or teachers in general. There are also in the Padlet some lesson plans about physics and chemistry and some websites and resources about science. Physics ans Chemistry Padlet:

Science Blogs: Ciencia de Sofa

One of the blogs on science that I like the most is Ciencia de Sofa . This blog publishes and organizes its entries on biology, geology, chemistry, mathematics, physics, astronomy, etc. It has a simple but attractive design and has been a finalist and winner of the Bitacoras awards.   The articles published by Ciencia de Sofa are quality, quite extensive and respond to curiosities or issues of great relevance in science. In addition, the author of the blog uses language that is easy to understand and with a slight touch of humour. One of the things that I like most about this blog is that it allows users to send questions with doubts or possible information topics and later the author gives them an answer in an entry.

Educational Websites

Once visited the websites of several educational centres, created with different CMS clients or directly with LMS. In my opinion, the best option to build the website of an institute, department or any related to any educational institution is Joomla! or the one that makes available the ConsellerĂa de la Generalitat Valenciana "Mestre a casa". The web pages that present the best design and organization, in my opinion, are those of the Leonardo da Vinci (designed with Joomla!) and La Canyada institute (offered by Conselleria). Joomla has the advantage of being able to use many templates, designs and extensions (like the previously commented on the blog), which gives you a greater grade of freedom and possibilities. The Conselleria, however, offers websites with an almost unique design, but which provides enough tools to build an educational website. In addition, I suppose its creation is easier as you will count on with the support of the administration. ...

vQuiz: A good Joomla! CMS extension.

Joomla! is a free open-source CMS platform that allows users to build dynamic websites, blog, intranets etc. Joomla! can be used for companies or small business websites, e-commerce, online reservations and educational sites. It can be a little tricky to install and get started with but you can create your own website on www.joomla.com or search for a hosting server that has already installed Joomla. This CMS has a lot of extensions to create and personalise the website to your needs. One of the thousands there are is vQuiz . vQuiz is a quiz tool that helps you to create various quizzes to evaluate respondent's level of knowledge. vQuiz uses Charts, graphs etc. It makes also graphic reports of your Quizzes. This extension could be very useful to take exams on a educational website which allows to grade and follow the student's progress. It has a demo page in case you want to see it previously to the purchuase.

The Cloud: Advantages and Disadvantages

Cloud Storage is a service where data is remotely maintained, managed, and backed up. The service allows the users to store files online, so that they can access them from any location via the Internet. I t consists of massive farms of servers. The name derives from the fact that data and software are all delivered as a service over the Internet rather than as a product that sits in your hard drive. Let’s look into some of the advantages and disadvantages of Cloud Storage. Cloud Computing Advantages Cost efficiency –  The biggest reason behind shifting to cloud computing is that it takes considerably lesser cost than an on-premise technology. Now the companies need not store the data in disks anymore as the Cloud offers enormous space available saving money and resources of the companies. High Speed –  Cloud computing lets you deploy the service quickly in fewer clicks. This quick deployment lets you get the resources required for your ...

Improving the Interactivity in and Beyond the Classroom

In the classroom: I believe that one of the best methodologies to encourage participation and interaction in the Physics and Chemistry lessons in the POGIL methodology (Process Oriented Guided Inquiry Learning). POGIL, is a learning methodology that seeks knowledge and skills in students through guided questions and is based on cooperative work in groups of students. It is a learning and laboratory technique that seeks content and skill development through key processes. It works in small groups (with or without role play) These materials provide the data and information that guide students to create their own knowledge and acquire skills related to the scientific method. The role of the teacher is to guide, observing and guiding, individually or collectively, students or groups of the class according to their specific needs. Here is a video of how POGIL works in the classroom. Advantages: It motivates students and teachers to provide immediate and co...
